Most Analog Tapes will have already decayed 10-20% at about the 15-year mark even if stored well. Storing tapes in hot or dusty locations can quickly accelerate this decay. Even magnets can destroy or decay these tapes faster. Don’t risk losing your memories! Convert your home movies, wedding videos, and other analog tapes to digital before it’s too late!
The process of converting the tapes takes some time due to the manual inspection as well as possible cleaning or dusting. The conversion takes as long as the tape actually plays to fully convert. The converted files are then taken, placed into your desired format and they are done! Altogether the process can take up to a few hours per tape depending on their duration. Depending on the backlog of other customers and the number of tapes you have to convert, orders are typically completed between a couple of days to a week. Rush orders are possible!
Converting old tapes means the content was recorded at old resolutions. In addition, the condition of the media and their inner components can result in certain conversions being of higher quality than others. Since the content was recorded at lower resolutions, the quality of the output cannot be better than the quality of the recording. Don’t expect the digital copies will be HD, as there is no way to invent high quality when it wasn’t recorded that way. The good news is that your new digital copy can last as long as computers do!
With any old analog media, there is always a possibility that the tape can already be weak or the components of the tape can wear out. This can cause tapes to get stuck in the player and/ or possibly damage the tapes themselves. We will inspect tapes before attempting to convert them and won’t convert any tapes we consider risky as it can damage our hardware as well. While we won’t put any blame on you if a tape happens to cause damage to our system, we also will not accept responsibility for any tapes getting damaged during the conversion process. This is a risk getting tapes converted anywhere and the longer you wait to convert your tapes, the higher the chances of damage are. To date, there has not been a damaged tape we weren't able to get at least 95% of the content off of!
